When I was really little, I remember playing with my sister in and around the hydrangea bushes behind my grandparents house. The bushes seemed huge then - like boulders of branches and leaves and blooms - massive to our child-selves. To this day I can’t see or walk by a hydrangea without reaching out to hold the blossoms all bundled up close together. They’re so complex to paint, but they always bring me comfort.
